TIM WILSON – BIOGRAPHY

Tim began his flute studies at the age of eleven and saxophone a year later. His first gigs were at the age of fifteen with local rock bands and jazz gigs at school with friends. He studied flute and saxophone at Trinity College of Music London but left after two years.

Tim has worked in a variety of musical settings including, small and large jazz ensembles, various classical ensembles, theatre pit orchestras and rock and pop bands. Tim played alto and tenor sax and flute(but not at the same time!) in the big band Force 18 whose many guests included Mark Nightingale, Alan Barnes, Paul Eshelby and the late Kenny Baker. He also played tenor sax and flute in the very popular Latin band, Salsa Loco. Tim has appeared at numerous venues throughout the UK including, London’s famous 100 Club, the now defunt, Bass Clef, the Edinburgh International jazz festival, The Royal Festival Hall foyer and Blackheath Concert Halls.

His musical influences are many and varied. They include, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins, Micheal Brecker, David Sanborn, Weather Report, Tubby Hayes, Hubert Laws, Dave Valentin, Earth Wind and Fire, Stevie Wonder, and the Beatles amongst many others.

Tim is an active teacher of saxophone and flute. He teaches jazz and the classical repertoire on both instruments. He can also be found teaching on various improvisation workshops. For more information please follow the links.
